Weekly Foot Hygiene Monitoring for Aging Men

Caregivers can use this checklist during routine hygiene support.


Daily Support

☐ Feet washed 3–4 times weekly
☐ Feet dried thoroughly
☐ Clean socks worn daily
☐ Breathable footwear used


Moisture Control

☐ No dampness between toes
☐ Powder applied if needed
☐ No heavy lotion between toes


Weekly Check

Inspect for:

☐ Redness
☐ Cracks
☐ Peeling skin
☐ Odor changes
☐ Nail thickening or discoloration


Footwear Care

☐ Shoes rotated
☐ Shoes aired out
☐ Shoe interiors disinfected weekly


Preventative Care

☐ Weekly soak completed (if appropriate)
☐ Skin moisturized (tops and heels only)
☐ Toenails trimmed safely


Alert Healthcare Provider If:

☐ Odor persists despite care
☐ Skin breaks down
☐ Pain develops
☐ Nails become discolored
☐ Swelling appears


Caregiver Reminder

Foot odor is not always a hygiene issue.

It may be an early sign of:

  • Fungal infection
  • Skin damage
  • Circulatory concerns

Routine monitoring protects both comfort and health.
